≪ Design ≫
"Wave Crest Pattern" ("Seigaiha")
A swirl of concentric circles divided in four parts is repeated in this pattern.
A pattern that can be observed around the world, for example in Egypt and in Persia.
This pattern is on the clothes worn under the kimono when performing the act called "Seigaiha" (Blue sea waves) of traditional bugaku dance.
Due to this, the pattern was also called "Seigaiha" (Blue sea waves).
It is an auspicious omen motif that signifies the wish for a long and calm life, just as the constantly repeating gentle waves of the pattern.
≪ Color ≫
Russet (Azuki-iro)
Refers to a dull crimson red, like the color of a red bean.
Bean colors have been a favorite in Japanese clothing from the Edo period until the present day.
It is said that red has the power to ward off evil spirits.
