"Kuginuki Tsunagi"
The pattern is a square with a smaller square within, which represents the washer of a pair of pincers.
The vertically connected pattern has been used by common people.

Chinaberry Purple (Ouchi)
A bluish purple like the flower of the chinaberry.
In the Heian period this was used as decoration for the 5th of May festival, along with things like irises and wormwood. It was said to ward off bad luck.
